Respite Care

For that vital short-term support

The Royal Alfred Seafarers' Society offers respite care as part of its wide range of care options for seafarers and people of non-seafaring backgrounds.

Respite care can be so important, both for the person requiring the care and their main carer. It can be beneficial for older people living alone who are more prone to loneliness, helping to reduce their susceptibility to disease and mental illness. With the added pressure of bad weather in the winter, respite can ensure consistency in care. Carers can also use the respite care period to recharge their batteries to ensure they continue to give the best possible care to their patient or to allow them to visit other friends and relatives.

We opened our dedicated dementia wing this year and the Alzheimer’s Society stresses the importance of regular breaks for dementia patient carers to make time for their own needs and avoid becoming ill or depressed which would make life difficult for both the patient and carer.

So, if you are a carer or a person requiring short-term support, our advice is not to suffer in silence and take advantage of respite care at the Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society.
